Looking at many historic landscape paintings, here, I play with making a composite. Can you tell me what historic painting I refer to in the bottom half of this watercolor? Here's the hint: Late 19th century French oil painting. If you think you know the answer, leave a comment below. If someone answers correctly within the week, I'll send a little prize. In any case, I'll write the correct answer below next Tuesday (20 Nov).

I'm afraid you'll have to give us another hint, Suzanne...
ReplyDeleteOk. It was painted in 1890.
ReplyDeleteWhich was a very important year for this artist.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a dutch landscape
ReplyDeleteYou're very close, Trijnie! I should clear something up... this was painted in France but not by a French painter. So this is of a French landscape but...
ReplyDeleteAnd remember...the bottom half is a stylization of that landscape. The sky is mine.
and the answer is...
ReplyDeleteVincent Van Gogh
Fields with blue sky
Champs sous un ciel bleu
Ok it must have been Vincent, but I only found this one from 1890 on the web, where the little red dots were missing...
